The 21st of April came alive with nostalgia, laughter, and renewed brotherhood as the ASOBA ’96 set gathered for a memorable mini reunion. What made it more than just a casual meet-up was the energy, organisation, and deep sense of purpose that defined the day. Kudos to the committee.
ASOBA—short for Annunciation School Old Boys Association—is the alumni body of Annunciation School, the only Catholic boys’ school in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. It’s a name that carries pride, history, and values deeply rooted in discipline and excellence.
Treasures Unveiler took a keen interest in this gathering because the ASOBA ’96 set isn’t just active—they’re on the rise, powered by a passion that’s truly inspiring. Their coordinated efforts, commitment to progress, and brotherly bond stood out as a shining example of what alumni associations should aspire to.
ASOBA operates as a self-governing body with a national structure, under which each class set functions autonomously. Each set, including the vibrant ’96 group, is led by its own executive team. This structure ensures not only smooth internal administration but also effective contribution to the larger ASOBA vision.
The ASOBA ’96 reunion was more than a get-together—it was a statement. A statement of unity, purpose, and growth. Indeed, ASOBA ’96 is not just looking back at the good old days—they’re forging ahead, stronger and more united than ever.
ASOBA 96 group was created in 2015, led by Mr Gboyega Olorunfemi. On the 16th of January 2024, a renewed sense of purpose and unity among members of the ASOBA Class gave rise to the formation of a dynamic Steering Committee. This committee was tasked with the responsibility of reconnecting the group, rekindling its vision, and aligning it with the national body.
The committee, composed of passionate and capable individuals, included: Mr. Olorunfemi Gboyega – Chairman, Engr. Pariola Abiodun – Vice Chairman, Barr. Bolu Awi – Legal Adviser/Secretary, Engr. Toba Ogunleye – Treasurer, Mr. Kunle Ogunbiyi – Financial Secretary, Mr. Bankole Adetimehin – Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kunle Olorunfemi – Member, Rev. Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp – Member
These committed members swung into action, galvanising classmates, ensuring the payment of outstanding dues, and re-establishing ties with the national body. They also set in motion the process for electing substantive executive officers by constituting an independent electoral committee.
The Election
The electoral committee was made up of distinguished individuals: Barr. Awi Boluwaji – Secretary, Engr. Toba Ogunleye – Member and Rev. Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp – Chairman. Through their meticulous planning and relentless efforts, a smooth and successful election was conducted, ushering in a new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the class for the next two to three years. The newly elected executives are: Chairman – Kunle Olorunfemi, Vice Chairman – Deji Ajogbeje, Secretary – Sanmi Omotayo, Assistant Secretary – Akole Sola, Treasurer – Falowo Dominic, Public Relations Officer – Kunle Abere, Social Secretary – Oluyede Oluremi, Auditor – Adeyeri Abiodun, Financial Secretary – Adedara Moyo, Legal Adviser – Muyiwa Ogunkolade
The Mini Reunion
Though tagged a “mini reunion,” the event was anything but small. Spearheaded by Hon. Ayodeji Ajogbeje, has Akole Oluwasola, Oluwaseyi Henry Kolade, Adetimehin Bankole as members. The gathering was a heartfelt celebration of friendship, shared history, and future aspirations. It was an occasion to inaugurate the newly elected executives, honour outstanding members for their dedication, and reignite the collective spirit of the class.
Despite many members being scattered across the globe, 39 proud ASOBA alumni made it to the event. It was a joyous reminder that the ASOBA group has grown into a global community, transcending the walls of their alma mater.
Sadly, about twelve members of the class are already deceased. Moment of silence was observed to honour them.
The Vision
The ASOBA group remains committed to giving back to their alma mater while also championing the welfare and progress of its members. The group serves as a platform for reigniting old dreams, celebrating milestones, and uniting members from all walks of life to support one another. It is more than just a reunion group; it is a vibrant, purpose-driven network of achievers inspired by shared memories and common goals.
