THE HOLY GHOST FATHERS AND BROTHERS CELEBRATE PENTECOST

As is their tradition, the Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers around the world celebrate the feast of Pentecost, which is also the feast of their congregation. The Congregation of the Holy Spirit was founded on Pentecost Sunday in 1703 by Claude Poullart Des Places. Today, there are over 3,000 professed and lay Spiritans from all continents, carrying out their mission of evangelization in more than 65 countries.

The core of their mission is the evangelization of the poor (Luke 4:18). They focus on those who have not yet heard the gospel message or who have scarcely heard it, as well as those in greatest need and the oppressed. The Spiritans undertake tasks that the Church struggles to find workers for and are dedicated to promoting justice and peace for all, regardless of class, creed, or race. They also show a profound respect for God’s creation by caring for the environment.

On Monday, May 21, 2024, the Spiritans in the province of Nigeria Southwest gathered to celebrate with their parishioners from their various missions. The celebration took place at Des Places House in Benin City, Nigeria, and was marked by the Holy Eucharist, presided over by the Provincial Superior, Very Rev. Fr. Austin Nwodo, CSSp. Fr. Innocent Igbokwe, OCD, also attended.

The event was a joyous reunion for the Spiritans, filled with happiness and a sense of total bliss. It was a time for renewing their commitment to a closer walk with the Holy Spirit.
