Rev. Fr. Emeka Akabueze, CSSp, the Director of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) for the Spiritans Province of Nigeria Southwest, recently visited the office of Rev. Fr. Benedict Onwugbenu, the Director of JDPC for the Benin Archdiocese.

JDPC, which stands for Justice, Development, and Peace Commission, is a Catholic organization dedicated to promoting social justice, development, and peace. It addresses issues like poverty, inequality, human rights, and environmental stewardship, working towards a more just and equitable society.

The primary focus of their meeting was to devise a strategic plan for the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo State, Nigeria, scheduled for September 21, 2024. This initiative is part of the Church’s broader involvement in politics, advocating for proper conduct and acting as God’s voice in speaking truth to power. The Church’s mission extends beyond the pulpit, requiring active engagement in the corridors of power.

JPIC, deeply rooted in the values of compassion, equality, and environmental stewardship, emphasizes the importance of upholding human dignity and integrating justice and peace into all aspects of society. It calls for a commitment to building a just society, resolving conflicts peacefully, and caring for the environment.

By embracing JPIC principles, communities can work together to create a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world for all.
