The Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today, we honor Mary's Immaculate Heart. Readings highlight the beauty of a good heart shown by Abraham's hospitality, the centurion's humility, and Jesus' selfless healing. Cultivate a heart like God's.

Why is it called “the sacred heart of Jesus”?

The answer to the question above is found in all the readings of today, and we shall make some citations to redirect our minds back to it.

In the first reading from the prophecy of Ezekiel, it is stated thus, “… I shall rescue them from wherever they have been scattered during the mist and darkness….” From common experiences, we know that it is difficult for a human to be supportive to another. We know that friendships tend to break in the face of grave difficulty. Nevertheless, God assures us of unbreakable support even during ‘mist and darkness’

More so, in the second reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans, Paul testified to the fact that it is difficult to die for a good man, “but what proves that God loves us is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners…”

Finally, in the gospel of today, Jesus is the good shepherd who will leave his ninety-nine sheep in the wilderness to go in search of one lost sheep. Only Jesus would do a thing like that because it appears foolish in the sight of the world. The world would think it is better to secure the ninety-nine than to abandon them and go in search just one that had gone missing.

Before we round this up, let each person answer these questions in his or her heart. Will you continue to support your friend even when you know it will cost you greatly? Will you accept to die in place of another? If you had a hundred sheep and lost one, would you abandon the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go in search of the lost?

If you have answered these questions in sincerity, you would understand the depth of what Jesus had done for humanity, and there is no better way to describe Him than as the one with ‘THE SACRED HEART’.

What then does this celebration today mean to us?
It reminds us of the pure love and compassion that Jesus has for humanity. Therefore, we must be devoted to tracing our steps back to his sacred heart no matter how far we have gone from him.

Let your opinion of yourself never stop from approaching the sacred heart of Jesus.

Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
