JUDE EKWOMADU: THE YOUNG ORIGAMIST
Born into the family of Mr. Kevin and Mrs Nonye Ekwomadu, fourteen years ago, I, Chibueze Jude Alexis Ekwomadu, have divinely come to fulfill my purpose in life.
From childhood, I have always shown inquisitiveness in things around me. And I came across Origami Artwork through the encyclopedia my dad gave me. So, my papa as I fondly call him is my inspiration Origami involves using various kinds of papers to make any object via folding.
My divine discovery was made possible through the unrelenting efforts of Rev. Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp, who was baffled meeting a young boy exceptionally good teaching catechism, in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church Ketu, Ijanikin, Lagos. When he visited our home, to find out who my parents were, he saw some origami artworks I had done displayed in my home so, he decided to schedule an interview with me on the platform of Spiritan Sounds Outreach. That exposure got me a mobile telephone, my first ever!
Amazingly, through Spiritan Sounds also, I was shortlisted for the last Toyota Nigeria Own the Dream Competition, 2022, in Lagos, which entailed the construction of cars with paper. I took the 5th position out of seventeen contestants and equally won the award for the Most Creative Contestant – for constructing a car with a single sheet. All these came with a cash gift amidst other rewards.
Words are never enough expressing my gratitude to Rev. Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp and all the members of Spiritans Sound Outreach.
I urge those trying to chart a course in life to hold on tenaciously to their dreams and never give up. More importantly, shun laziness, be prepared always for you do not know when your light will shine.
