At 85, Monsignor Patrick Gerry Fitzpatrick keeps soaring. With the heart of a missionary and the skills of a digital native, he continues to build bridges between generations, through music, prayer, and technology. His story is not just inspiring; it’s a clarion call for a new generation to take their place in the Church’s evolving mission.

A Lifetime in Harmony
Monsignor Fitzpatrick is a man who understands rhythm, not just musical rhythm, but the rhythm of faith lived in community. As parish priest of St. Leo, the Great, Dumbreck, and Director of Music for the Archdiocese of Glasgow, he has helped shape the soundscape of Catholic worship in Scotland for decades. His leadership of the St Mungo Singers, a renowned liturgical choir, is a testament to his belief that music is not a side note to worship, it is the soul’s language.
“He is a necessary tool in the Church’s hands,” said Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp, publisher of Unveiler Magazine.
“A vessel of wisdom and creativity whose wealth of knowledge must reach every concerned child of the Church, and beyond.”

Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp, is the visionary behind Spiritans Sound Outreach, a dynamic Spiritan youth ministry that evangelises through media while mentoring young talents, particularly in music, the arts, and writing. His mission is to nurture a new generation of creatives, especially those without access to the resources needed to develop their God-given gifts. Meeting Monsignor Patrick Gerry Fitzpatrick was, for him, like encountering a kindred spirit, someone whose life and ministry reflect a shared vision for empowering the Church through creativity, technology, and spiritual formation.
Sacred Sounds in a Digital World
However, Monsignor Gerry’s mission doesn’t end with hymns and choirs. He has ventured boldly into the digital frontier, co-founding Radio Alba, an ecumenical Christian internet radio station based in Glasgow. This platform, powered by volunteers and supported by Glasgow Churches Together, broadcasts daily prayers, reflections, and sacred music, connecting listeners across borders and backgrounds.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Radio Alba became a spiritual sanctuary for many isolated at home. Monsignor Fitzpatrick’s foresight—recognizing the internet as sacred space—has made him a quiet pioneer in digital evangelization.
A Call to Young Hearts
Monsignor Gerry is proof that age is no barrier to innovation. His life is a vivid invitation to young Catholics: The Church needs you. There is room in its ministries for your talents, whether you’re a musician, media creator, web designer, or community builder.

“The Church must meet people where they are, and many today are online. Music and media are sacred languages too.”
In a time when many young people feel disconnected from traditional forms of worship, Monsignor Fitzpatrick’s story reveals a ministry that is vibrant, creative, and open, a place where youthful energy and seasoned wisdom can thrive together.

Carrying the Melody Forward
The work of Monsignor Fitzpatrick reminds us that the Gospel message doesn’t change, but the methods must. His leadership in music and media offers a model for the Church of tomorrow: one that is intergenerational, ecumenical, and digitally present.
To the young faithful: the song of the Church is still being written. Why not add your voice?
