The story leading to this particular passage we are being read or presented to today is the story of Jacob and his brother Easu. This is a continuation where Jacob was trying to flee from his brother Easu.
God’s preservation and choosing of Jacob (Israel) as one through whom he will make the descendants is quite clear in this passage. It was shown to him in the dream with the promises that followed it and when Jacob woke up he dedicated the place to God because he felt the presence of God there.
This particular passage portrays that God chooses whom he wants right from the onset. The actions that happened between Jacob and Easu in mere human thinking Jacob was totally at fault for tricking his brother Easu to collect his birthright and that was why he was running away to avoid the wrath of his brother. But despite all these Jacob is the chosen one of God and through him he made the descendants that He will call his people that is “Israel”. God’s ways are not human ways. Whom he wants he choses from time and works through him or her.
Many people that God are using as instruments in the Wolrd of today may have some deep human frailty. But that does or did not stop God from using them, because they are already from the time being set aside for God’s work.
In the Gospel of today Christ continues through Miracles to show his divine power. One important lesson in this particular Gospel reading that i want us to emulate is that faith works.
Heaven help those who help themselves. Both the official whom the daughter died and the woman suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years had faith in Jesus so much. They so much believe in him that they know that much do not even need to be done to recieve their miracles.
As Christians, many of us have doubts more than faith in our lives. Let us as the Grace of God to make us have a strong faith and trust in his works.
PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL
