God’s Kingdom, A treasure

73

All right. Well, take care yourself. I guess that’s what you’re best, presence old master? A tremor in the Force. The last time felt it was in the presence of my old master. I have traced the Rebel spies to her.

Remember, a Jedi can feel the Force flowing through him. I can’t get involved! I’ve got work to do! It’s not that I like the Empire, I hate it, but there’s nothing I can do about it right now.

Harnessing talents embedded in people should take a larger chunk of their energy, that way, much attention is paid to individual abilities which helps in proper self development. This is in harmony with what the Lord said in the gospel of St Matthew, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also,” (Mathew 6:21). The human heart and imagination ought to be focused on what interests them, invariably; no stone should be left unturned in the pursuit for self actualisation. Do fall prey comparing personal feats with the achievement of other people with similar gifts or talents. Rather, be on the watch for the magnitude of efforts or labour others have employed in their crafts and the number of years of practice they have put in, as a sort of personal motivation.

Moreover, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a treasure buried in a field, which someone finds, hides again and joyfully goes forth, selling all that he has just so he could buy that field (Matthew 13:44). The quest for talent discovery is akin to finding a treasure whilst casting aside every other side attractions in order to posses it. Identifying individual abilities isn’t solely enough, concerted efforts ought to be made so as to lay claims to it. It doesn’t make sense boasting about untapped talents just as it’s absolutely pointless clamouring to harvest fruits from an unfruitful tree. A tree becomes fertile when it is nurtured with adequate compost.

The parable of the unfertile fig tree is a gospel imbued with the opportunity for a second chance for those who failed to nurture their natural gifts abinitio. Grace abounds for them still, to make further attempts so as to join the league of other successful people in the society as the biblical tale went thus, “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, he said to the gardener, for three years now I have come in search of the fruit on this fig tree but have found none. (So) cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil? He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave if for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.” Luke 13:6-9. The Lord said, “Every tree that does not bear good fruits will be cut down and thrown into the fire so by their fruits you will know them” Matthew 7:19.

The sole aim of The Spiritans Sound Outreach is geared towards the promotion of people’s gifts, talents, skills or abilities in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our life, our talents must be significant in carving a niche in the kingdom of God. Our gifts must be employed to draw people closer to God. It must give glory to God. The gospel of salvation must permeate whatever we use our gifts for, be it music, drama, writing and the likes.

God gives us varying talents according to his riches in glory. In the parable of the talents, he teaches us to utilise our gifts and not to conceal them. As we make use of these skills, he announces us for greater pursuits. Fame divinely rooted can only materialise when personal talents are put into use. Nonetheless, one must not abandon God, the giver of these gifts when popularity is attained in the long run. Therefore, all glory, honour and praise must be ascribed to the almighty God in return.

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
