In an age where digital proficiency and innovation define success, the 2025 Annual Workshop of Spiritans Sound Outreach could not have come at a better time. Held on July 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ketu-Ijanikin, Ojo, Lagos, the workshop attracted an enthusiastic crowd of youths from the Ipaja and Ojo axes of Lagos State. With the theme “Building 21st Century Skills for Talent Development,” the one-day event empowered participants with practical knowledge in ICT, content creation, and digital entrepreneurship — tools vital for navigating today’s tech-driven world.

The programme kicked off promptly at 11:00 a.m. with an opening prayer led by the moderator and compere, Mr. Stephen Imereti, the ever-energetic Coordinator of Spiritans Sound Outreach, Ojo Zone, Lagos. From the get-go, the tone was set for a transformative experience. The first session, handled by Mr. Olumide Joseph Obikoya, took the participants deep into the world of digital marketing, graphic design, and social media management. Obikoya, a seasoned creative director, founder of Skillmid Creatives, and an alumnus of the Mount Zion Institute, delivered a comprehensive and practical session that demystified digital tools and income-generation platforms. He didn’t just teach; he inspired.

A particularly engaging highlight of the morning was the hands-on training on Canva. Participants had the opportunity to create stunning visual content in real-time — many for the first time. The session left attendees buzzing with new confidence in their ability to craft appealing digital designs using nothing but a smartphone and creativity.
After a brief refreshment break at 1:45 p.m., the workshop resumed with the second session led by Mr. Samson Agbaeze, co-founder of PAASE Marketing Firm and Head of Digital Strategy at Jelluminous Consult, Lagos. His presentation was as energetic as it was enlightening. Agbaeze introduced participants to the essentials of Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), video editing, and content monetization. He stressed that excellence in creativity is not a matter of expensive equipment, but the consistency and passion to start with what you have. His words, “The success of any creative is the ability to improve on their creativity and carve a niche,” struck a chord with every listener in the room.

This session was hands-on as well. Participants were challenged to create short videos and were taught basic editing techniques using accessible mobile apps. The interactive nature of this segment encouraged teamwork, ignited new ideas, and even revealed hidden talents among the youth.
As the workshop progressed, so did the participants’ excitement. They were not just being talked to; they were being engaged, activated, and empowered. The entire event, from start to finish, was laced with practical insights, collaborative energy, and a shared vision of building a more skillful and self-reliant generation.

Adding a spiritual dimension to the day, Our Daily Journey with the Holy Spirit, a special prayer booklet published by Spiritans Sound Outreach, was freely distributed to attendees. Information regarding its use and purpose was clearly explained, further underscoring the Outreach’s mission to nurture both spiritual and personal development.
The event came to a close exactly at 4:00 p.m. with a heartfelt prayer by Mr. Stephen Imereti, who had masterfully moderated the entire day. The presence of other executive members of Spiritans Sound Outreach added to the warmth and credibility of the initiative.

The workshop was a resounding success. It left participants not only more informed but also more hopeful and ready to embrace the opportunities of the digital world. It also reinforced Spiritans Sound Outreach’s growing reputation as a catalyst for youth empowerment and talent development in Lagos and beyond.
To the founder and director of Spiritans Sound Outreach, Rev. Fr. Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, we say a big thank you for envisioning and executing such a timely and impactful programme. The seeds planted at this workshop are sure to yield fruits in lives and communities for years to come.
