Dear friends, in today’s gospel, Jesus is out again to continue his work of compassion. He remains faithful to his mission. Part of the mission is to set prisoners free and make the dumb proclaim the greatness of God. In the gospel, he encountered a mute demoniac. He was under the captivity of the devil. Jesus was not going to let him waste away. He cast the demon out and so the man spoke. The marvel of God was again made manifest in the ministry of Jesus.

However, in the midst of this great marvel of God, some people found fault in what Jesus has done. They claimed Jesus was not real. They claimed he was casting out demons with the prince of demons. It is quite pathetic. The aim was to discredit Jesus. It was not as if they did not know that a demon cannot cast out another demon, for they were of the same kingdom.

Friends, do we deliberately discredit other people’s works simply because we don’t like them and because the works were not coming from us? Do we fail to be just in our judgement such that we begin to fault the good works of God through our neighbors? There is a need to refrain from such acts. We are not bearing witness to the God who wants His glory to be revealed through us. We will never have a good image or view of the reality of things when we look at it from the lens of prejudice. It will always be blurry.

Moreso, there is a very amazing experience here in the gospel reading. Jesus did not pay attention to critics. He simply went away showing mercy and compassion to people and healing the sick. Let us learn from Jesus not to be discouraged by how people discredit our good worksMoreso, there is a very amazing experience here in the gospel reading. Jesus did not pay attention to critics. The focus must remain to bear witness to God’s kingdom.
May the Lord bless His words in our hearts.

The Lord be with you .
